CRUISING TO THE NORMANDY BEACHES FROM PARIS ON A VIKING RIVER BOAT VIA CONFLANS, VERNON AND ROUEN... AN EIGHT DAY EXPERIENCE.
The Canal St. Martin was just about two blocks from our hotel.

Paris, Day Three
Saturday, October 30, 2010

Still not adjusted to Paris time. Didn't sleep well and feeling the effects of our over indulging yesterday. There is some sort of tour on offer today, but we are not up for it and decide to take it easy. After breakfast we take a walk to Canal St. Martin which is literally just around two corners. We pass the Boulongerie but it is shuttered for the weekend.

According to several Paris guide books the Canal St. Martin is supposed to be the new Montmartre with trendy shops, art galleries and small restaurants and cafés lining its banks. We probably didn't walk far enough to find the cool stuff, but it doesn't matter much. We are not very energetic, the weather is overcast and it is too early. Apparently, Paris or our little part of it, doesn't wake up until early afternoon. Shops aren't open yet except for a drug store where we buy some nail polish remover for Susan. It is expensive, but she is thrilled with the quality and the fact that it is free of harmful chemicals.

We walk back to the hotel and take a nap. We have an early dinner at the Pizza Pino again and just kick back and rest. Tomorrow we are to transfer to the Viking Spirit and have to be packed with our bags outside our rooms by noon. No problem. We are looking forward to getting out of the hotel which was still too warm and dry and dusty. The room is fine, it's the air quality that is giving us both scratchy throats.
